Do Not Call(DNC)
A registry of phone numbers that have opted out of telemarketing contact, federally and in many states.
What it means in practice
The US maintains a National Do Not Call Registry (national-dnc.gov) plus state-level registries in 12+ states. Several verticals (insurance, mortgage, political) have specific carve-outs. Every outbound list must be scrubbed against all applicable registries before dialing. Plus each organization maintains its own internal DNC list for consumers who've requested contact to stop directly.
